SERIES AT A GLANCE: After a difficult road trip, the Squirrels return home and welcome the Binghamton Mets (New York Mets) for a four-game series. This is the first time these two teams have played one another since their first collision at The Diamond mid May (5/11-5/13). Richmond took two of the three games and this included the finale they won thanks to a Mitch Delfino walk-off hit in the 10th inning. The Squirrels bullpen was impressive in this series with 12 scoreless innings scattered over the three contests. This is the second of three meetings between these two clubs during the regular season. They will face off again in mid August (8/18-8/20) in Binghamton, NY and this will be the second to last ballpark Richmond discovers in 2015 (@ Akron, 8/27-8/30). The Mets are currently stationed atop the Eastern Division and have claimed five of their previous six series. During that span, Binghamton won 11 of 12 games earlier in July (7/9-7/22). They also hold the best record in July (18-9) and the lowest ERA during this month as a pitching staff (2.00). In 2014, Binghamton defeated Richmond in the Eastern League Championship series in three games.

LACKING THE "W": The Flying Squirrels are currently on a five-game losing streak and that is the second longest skid this season. Richmond dropped the final five games during the seven-game road trip and in the last two contests posted two goose eggs in the run column (0-3, 0-1). Richmond was swept by Altoona to complete the trip and that was the first time they had gotten swept since early May (5/1-5/3) against New Britian, and these were also the last three losses of 15-games losing streak. The RVA has not scored a run in their last 20 innings (last time-2 runs in the 7th on 7/27). The offense has taken a step back with just 11 hits in the last three games. Before that, the Squirrels outhit Erie 12-10, but managed to lose 10-1 as they left a season high 14 runners on base. Aside from the 15-game debacle way back at the beginning of the season, Richmond also dropped four consecutive contests in late June (6/24-6/29) and that is the third longest. The Squirrels lost the final three games of a four-game series with the Trenton Thunder and then game one of a weekend showdown with the New Britain Rock Cats. Richmond was outhit 15-3 in the defeats to the Thunder. The club compiled a forgetful season high 29 scoreless innings offensively in late June and that occured during most of this losing stretch.

BLINK OF AN EYE: The last two games for the Squirrels were completed at a rapid pace. Richmond's contest on July 27 finished in just two hours and eight minutes, which at the moment became the shortest nine inning game all season. To top that off, the team wrapped up the final game of the road trip on Wednesday in a speedy one hour and 54 minutes. This shattered the record books to become the shortest nine-inning contest in Flying Squirrels franchise history. The previous record was two hours and seven minutes and that happened twice, the last time was not since 2011. Richmond did not have a single runner in scoring position on Wednesday,

STREAKY GOOD, STREAKY BAD: Richmond is 4-10 on the road during this month and 9-4 at home. The Squirrels have won six of their last seven home games. As a whole, the offense has been up and down in July. Engel Beltre compiled a sensational 17-game hitting streak (7/8-7/26). Hunter Cole also put together a stretch of 10 games with at least one hit (7/17-7/28). During that time, he recorded seven RBI's after just having two in his first 16 games since the promotion. Cole also had eight hits in his first three games played on the road trip, which included one four-hit performance on July 23. Rando Moreno had an eight-game hitting streak end on July 26 and since then he is 0-11 in his last three games.

RICHMOND STARTING PITCHER: Edwin Quirarte (0-2, 3.83)

Quirarte prepares for a surprising fifth start and 18th appearance for the Squirrels this season. Adalberto Mejia was originally suppose to start today, but was just placed on the disabled list. Quirarte, meanwhile, recently came off the disabled list on July 27 and immediately appeared in a game on that same day as part of an emergency relief outing (2.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R).The right-hander has been pretty solid in his starts this season. He logged six innings in back-to-back outings (7/7, 7/12). These two six-innings performances are his longest outings with the Giants organization since 2008. In his last start on July 16 against Altoona, he lasted four innings, allowed five hits, four runs (three earned). Quirarte started this season in the Independent Atlantic League before San Francisco decided to acquire him again in May after the organization did not re-sign him after 2014. The 28-year-old has spent the last five seasons with the Flying Squirrels. Quirarte was selected in the fifth round by the Giants in 2008.

BINGHAMTON STARTING PITCHER: RHP Rainy Lara (5-3, 3.57)

Lara, 24, will make his 18th start of the season and 13th with the Mets. He was promoted briefly to Triple-A Las Vegas where he made five starts (6/16-7/8). The right-hander posted a 4.50 ERA during these outings and let up a total of four home runs. His start to forget came on July 3 where he surrendered seven earned runs through four innings. Lara has gone deeper into games since returning to Binghamton for two starts so far, but with some struggle (15 IP, 13 H, 6 ER). He was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Mets in 2009 out of the Dominican Republic. In 2014, Lara spent his whole season with Binghamton (20 starts, 4.31 ERA).
