Curve Lose Two Early Leads, Fall to RubberDucks

CURVE, Pa. - Jose Osuna hit a solo homer on Thursday night, but the Altoona Curve lost to the Akron RubberDucks, 4-2, at Peoples Natural Gas Field.

The Curve (57-49) took a pair of early leads, but Ronny Rodriguez and Yandy Diaz each drove in a pair of runs to lift the RubberDucks (54-52).

Altoona jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Josh Bell that allowed Adam Frazier to score from third.

The RubberDucks tied the game in the second inning with a RBI triple by Rodriguez.

The Curve went back in from with a solo blast by Osuna in the second, his fifth home run with Altoona this year and ninth overall.

Akron's bats stayed silent until the fifth inning when Ronny Rodriguez hit a solo homer against Altoona starter Jason Creasy (Loss, 8-5). Diaz connected on a solo shot to give the RubberDucks the lead for good.

RubberDucks starter Adam Plutko (Win, 6-4) allowed two runs on three hits in eight innings and finished with eight strikeouts.

After a two-out double by Bell in the ninth, his second hit of the game, Jeff Johnson (Save, 18) stranded the potential tying run at the plate.

The Curve and RubberDucks continue the four-game set on Friday night at PNG Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. Righty Matt Benedict (4-4, 4.88) makes his tenth start for the Curve. Southpaw Shawn Morimando (7-10, 2.99) will be on the bump for the 'Ducks.

Punxsutawney Phil will be in attendance at Peoples Natural Gas Field and the first 1,500 fans will take a home a Punxsutawney Phil bobblehead, presented by Asurion. It's also a Ritchey's Dairy Curve Kids Club game, and members get in free with their membership cards.
