
Rock Cats Open Homestand with 9-4 Win vs SeaWolves

New Britain, CT - New Britain Rock Cats defeated the Erie SeaWolves 9-4 at New Britain Stadium on Thursday night in the first of a 4-game series. The Rock Cats have now won four of their last five home games. New Britain did most of the damage early and scored six runs on eight hits over the first two innings to take a 6-1 lead. Five Rock Cats had multiple hits in New Britain's 14-hit attack.
Erie scored the first run of the game on a 2-out single by DH Dean Green in the first inning. The Rock Cats responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. CF David Dahl cranked a leadoff double followed by a single by DH Mike Tauchman. RF Jordan Patterson then ripped a 2-out 2 RBI double to give the Rock Cats a 2-1 lead.
The Rock Cats scored four runs in the second inning. Dahl had an RBI single while C Jan Vazquez scored on Erie starting pitcher Tommy Collier's balk. LF Noel Cuevas followed with an RBI single and SS Pat Valiaka finished the rally with a 2-out run scoring hit.
Shane Carle was touched for two homers but pitched seven innings for his team leading 11th win. He recorded a season-high nine strikeouts while winning his second straight start.
The Rock Cats added three more runs in the 6th inning, highlighted by a RBI double by Tauchman to make it 9-2. The SeaWolves scored twice in the 7th inning on four hits and closed the gap to five runs. Austin House retired the final six batters for New Britain.
The Rock Cats continue the series against the SeaWolves on Friday night at 7:05. Matt Flemer will start for the Rock Cats.
