Offense Stays Hot Down South in 11-3 Win

RICHMOND, VA - The Binghamton Mets used a pair of late four-run innings to blow past the Richmond Flying Squirrels, 11-3, on Thursday night at The Diamond. Jared King and Jonathan Galvez drove in three runs apiece in the B-Mets third straight win, extending their lead in the division to 1-1/2 games. Gavin Cecchini set a career-high with five hits to lead Binghamton's 18-hit attack.

With the game tied at three, Binghamton jumped on reliever Phil McCormick to start the seventh. With LJ Mazzilli running from first, Josh Rodriguez smoked a go-ahead double into the right-field alley. Vince Belnome flared an RBI single into left and Galvez capped the inning with a two-run triple to right.

The contest had been a see-saw battle before Binghamton's big seventh. Belnome put the B-Mets on the board by banging an RBI triple off the center-field wall in the first. Richmond responded by scratching out two runs off Rainy Lara in the fourth.

Binghamton grabbed the lead back with two runs in the sixth against Pedro Rodriguez. King stroked an RBI triple into the right-field alley to tie the game and Gilbert Gomez supplied a sacrifice fly to center to push the B-Mets to a 3-2 lead.

The Squirrels used a two-out rally to erase the deficit against Beck Wheeler in the sixth. Following a Mitch Delfino triple, Jackson Williams skipped a game-tying single up the middle. Myles Schroder chased Wheeler from the game with another hit.

Josh Smoker took over and left both inherited runners on base, preserving the tie game. The lefty returned after Binghamton's four-run seventh and posted a scoreless seventh.

Binghamton put the game out of reach by plating four runs in the ninth against Braulio Lara. Galvez supplied an RBI double and King added two more RBI with a two-bagger down the left-field line. Cecchini capped his career night by flaring an RBI single into left.

Smoker (1-0) went 1-1/3 innings to collect his first career Double-A victory. McCormick (3-3) allowed a season-high four runs and recorded one out in the loss.

Binghamton starter Rainy Lara allowed one hit, but walked four and hit two batters over five innings in the no-decision. Edwin Quirarte struck out a career-high eight in four innings in the spot start.

POSTGAME NOTES: Binghamton registered a season-high eight extra-base hits...it was the first five-hit game by a B-Met since Josh Rodriguez performed the feat on June 9, 2012...every starting B-Met position player collected at least one hit; six B-Mets registered multiple hits
