Beloit Sky Carp News Release

Five runs in the top of the ninth helped slingshot the LumberKings past the Snappers Thursday night, 7-2. Beloit's Loek Van Mil picked up the loss, pitching 1.2 innings and allowing four runs off three hits.

The LumberKings would strike first in the top of the fifth inning on a Crisitan Santana RBI-double to right field. With one out, Tim Smith advanced Jonathan Greene, who was hit by a pitch, to second on a single through the hole at second base. Greene would then cross home after the Santana double, giving Clinton the early 1-0 lead.

The Snappers would also jump on board in the fifth with an Allan de San Miguel single, followed by another single from Andrew Schmiesing. Chris Cates then moved each runner up a base with a sacrifice bunt to the catcher. Beloit's Rene Leveret then delivered the big hit, cracking an RBI-single to third base, scoring Allan from third base. However, that would be the only run scored as the inning would end tied 1-1.

The LumberKings would score again in the top of the seventh to make it 2-1 after Jonathan Greene homered to left field. The Snappers retaliated scoring their own run in the bottom half of the seventh.

After Schmiesing and Cates both walked with one out, the two each moved up a base on a passed ball from Clinton catcher Carlos Dominguez. Deibinson Romero then stepped to the plate and singled up the middle to plate Schmiesing. Sadly, that would be the only run scored as Cates was thrown out at home on the same play, ending the inning in a 2-2 tie.

The LumberKings would then do some offensive damage and score five runs on three hits in the top of the ninth. Reliever Loek Van Mil gave up four of the five runs, putting the Snappers behind heading into the bottom of the ninth.

Beloit native Kyle Murphy hit a big RBI-single in the ninth and Matt Lawson smoked a three-run homer to left field to make it a 7-2 game late.

Even as the fans busted out their rally caps it wasn't enough Thursday night, as the Snappers fell to the LumberKings 7-2.

Beloit wasted an outstanding performance from starter Michael Tarsi, who went seven strong innings allowing just two runs. Tarsi also struck out a Beloit season-high 11 batters.

Jeanfred Brito went 3 for 5 with a stole base for the Snappers who fell to 10-5 in the second half.
