Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GRAND CHUTE, WI - The streaks of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and the Peoria Chiefs continued after Thursday's game. Peoria's 5-4 win gave them a 10-game winning streak. The loss was Wisconsin's seventh straight. Luis Bautista homered and drove in three runs to pace the Chiefs to an early lead and they held on for the win.
Bautista hit a leadoff homer in the top of the second inning to give the Chiefs (10-5 second half, 40-43 overall) a 1-0 lead.
The Chiefs extended their lead with three runs in the top of the sixth. A two-run double by Bautista made the score 3-0. A two-out RBI single by Josh Donaldson drove in Bautista for a 4-0 lead.
Wisconsin could not get to Peoria starting pitcher Jay Jackson, a 9th round pick of the Chicago Cubs in the 2008 draft who was making his Midwest League debut, allowed three hits, walked one, and struck out five in four innings. He left the game after reaching his pitch limit.
The Rattlers (3-12, 34-47) got a leadoff homer from Denny Almonte off Peoria reliever Craig Muschko in the bottom of the sixth. Almonte's fifth homer of the season pulled Wisconsin to within three runs.
Wisconsin kept the bats going in the bottom of the seventh. The first two batters reached on singles and a sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position. An infield grounder by Edilio Colina drove in the first run and the second run scored on a wild pitch.
But, Peoria got an insurance run in the top of the eighth. The Chiefs had the bases loaded with two outs and Rattler reliever Justin Souza committed a balk to allow the run to score.
Joe Dunigan homered to start the Rattler half of the eighth off Peoria reliever Jake Muyco and the Rattlers trailed 5-4. Israel Nunez followed with a single and the tying run was on base. A sacrifice bunt moved Nunez into scoring position. But, Muyco got the final two outs of the eighth and worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his first save.
Game four of the series is on Friday night. Wisconsin sends Edward Paredes (4-8, 4.60) to the mound as the starting pitcher. The Chiefs counter with Audy Santana (0-4, 3.35). Game time is 7:05pm.
