Brant Stickel (0-1) took the loss after giving up an unearned run in the 13th inning while eight other pitchers out of the bullpen combined to throw seven and two-third innings without giving up a run and giving up only four hits while striking out 11.
Calgary jumped out to a big early lead in the first when Jonny Kaplan reached on a throwing error, with two outs Julio Ramirez and Drew Miller were hit by pitches, Luis Taveras lined a bases clearing three-run double, and Jorge Mejia launched a two run shot for his fourth home run of the year and a 5-0 advantage.
Edmonton trimmed the lead down to 5-3 in the third inning as Enrique Cruz walked, Tom Collaro hit a two-run big fly, Larry Bigbie walked, and Matt Rogelstad collected a run batted in double.
The Capitals completed the comeback and took a 6-5 lead in the fifth frame when Mike Rose singled, Rogelstad walked, Alex Prieto doubled for two RBI, and Steve Brown collected a RBI base knock.
Leading off the bottom of the seventh Kaplan hit his seventh home run of the season for the Vipers to tie the game at 6-6 and force extra innings.
Edmonton retook the lead in the 13th inning as Kevin House and Rose walked, a double-play advanced House to third base where he scored on a fielding error with two outs for a 7-6 score.
