Orange County Flyers News Release

FULLERTON, Calif. - Julian Benavidez blasted a grand slam on a 6-RBI night to power the Orange County Flyers past the Yuma Scorpions, 12-3, for a franchise record 11th consecutive win. The win on Saturday coupled with Maui's loss in Chico put Orange County in first place in the GBL South Division second-half standings with a 22-5 record (44-28 overall).

Jimmmy Rohan also had a big night at the plate, driving in the first four runs for OC with a three-run homerun (4) in the first inning and a second inning sacrifice fly. Catcher Alex Jamieson added a two-run homerun (1) in the eighth inning.

Mark Prior, making his fifth appearance for the Flyers, tossed a scoreless 8th inning with two strikeouts in a relief outing. Starting pitcher Zac Cline earned his third win as a Flyer, making his first start against his former team. Cline (5-2) struck out six Scorpions over six innings of work, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits with two walks.

Jake Renshaw and Andre Simpson added scoreless relief innings as the Flyers completed the home sweep against Yuma.

Benavidez finished his night 2-for-5 with a sixth inning grand slam, the fourth by a Flyer this season, and an eighth inning two-run double.

Orange County will host Na Koa Ikaika Maui (The Maui Strong Warriors) for a three-game series starting on Sunday with first pitch at 5:05pm. Maui, who won the GBL South Division first half, would be the Flyers playoff opponent if OC wins the second half. The Flyers and Warriors will play Sunday and a doubleheader on Tuesday at 5:05pm.
