Flyers Take on Maui in Potential Playoff Preview

The first-place Orange County Flyers face the playoff-bound Na Koa Ikaika Maui for a three-game series in Fullerton, beginning with a 5:05pm game on Sunday, "Faith Night" at the ballpark. The Flyers have won a franchise-record 11 games in a row to overtake Maui in the second-half GBL South Division standings. The Flyers took two of three games against Maui when the islanders visited Goodwin Field in early July. Now Orange County looks to continue it's recent winning ways as Maui is coming off a loss in Chico which snapped their own 10-game winning streak. Today the Flyers send Kevin Altman to the mound for his ninth start of the year in his first appearance against the Strong Warriors.

The Flyers are coming off a sweep of the Yuma Scorpions with a 12-3 win on Saturday nigh t. Third baseman Julian Benavidez led the way with a 6-RBI night featuring a sixth inning grand slam. Jimmy Rohan and Alex Jamieson added homeruns as well, and starting pitcher Zac Cline struck out six batters over six innings to get the win against his former team. Mark Prior made his fifth relief appearance for Orange County, striking out two batters in a scoreless, hitless inning of work. The Flyers magic number is down to four, and the team can now clinch a playoff spot with a combination of four wins/Yuma losses as well as two Tucson losses.
