June 29, 2021 - Pacific Coast League (PCL)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Rainiers 6 (25-20), Isotopes 5 (15-32) - RGCU Field at Isotopes Park
AT THE DISH: The first five batters in the bottom of the first reached safely for Albuquerque ... Rio Ruiz, Wynton Bernard and Greg Bird all had singles, then Connor Joe hit a three-run homer followed by Sam Hilliard's solo shot ... Ruiz extended his hit streak to 16 games, the first Isotope to reach that mark since Elliot Soto in August 2019 ... The Topes failed to score the rest of the night ... Hilliard, Alan Trejo and Greg Bird all had two knocks apiece.
TOEING THE RUBBER: Dereck Rodríguez took the hill for his first start in 11 days and gave up five hits and four runs (two earned) in five innings ... He surrendered back-to-back solo homers to José Marmolejos and Luis Liberato in the third ... Jack Wynkoop and Jake Bird (1-1) each gave up a run in relief ... Nelson Gonzalez made his first appearance of the season for the Isotopes, his 114th all-time in an Albuquerque uniform (2015-21) and kept Tacoma off the board in the ninth.
TOPES TIDBITS: A pair of throwing errors (by Rodríguez and Jose Gomez) prolonged the top of the fourth with a run scoring on each misplay ... Joe has homered three times in his last two games following Sunday's two-homer performance ... Hilliard became the first Albuquerque player with double-digits in long balls this season ... Marmolejos homered twice, the fourth opposing player to go deep multiple times in a game against the Topes since June 12 ... Gonzalez joined Chris Rusin as the only two players to appear in a contest in all six seasons of the Isotopes/Rockies affiliation.
ON DECK: The Isotopes and Rainiers will wrap up their lone series of 2021 tomorrow night, with Albuquerque needing a win to split the set. Right-hander Brandon Gold (1-5, 7.09) is scheduled to get the baseball for Warren Schaeffer's squad, and Tacoma will counter with southpaw David Huff (1-1, 6.97). Gates open at 5:30 PM with first pitch slated for 6:35.
