Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Today the Southern League announced the 2014 Southern League North Division All-Star Team. The initial roster features one former and four current Chattanooga Lookouts' players. Starting pitcher Tyson Brummett, starting pitcher Chris Reed, outfielder Jeremy Hazelbaker, outfielder Scott Schebler and infielder Darnell Sweeney were all selected to represent the host city at this annual event.
"Each of our five players selected earned this honor with their outstanding play on the field," said Chattanooga Lookouts' President and General Manager Rich Mozingo. "Having a strong representation at the All-Star game is important for the host city and we are certain that the members of the Lookouts selected will serve as excellent ambassadors for the city of Chattanooga."
The only member of the Lookouts selected who is no longer with the team is Hazelbaker. The speedy outfielder was called up to the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes on May 28. During his time with the team Hazelbaker hit .285 with seven triples and three home runs and was named the Southern League Player of the Week (5/12-18) on May 19th.
Filling the offensive void left by Hazelbaker was fellow outfielder Scott Schebler who has lit up the Southern League over the past week. The lefty hitter belted a home run in three consecutive games (5/30-6/1) and hit for the cycle on June 1 against Mobile. Schebler's historic night vaulted him to the tops of the Southern League leaderboards. As of 6/2, he is third in the league in extra-base hits (27), third in slugging percentage (.532) third in home runs (11) and fourth in total bases (107).
Joining Hazelbaker and Schebler is Darnell Sweeney. Sweeney is currently riding a 12-game hitting streak which began on May 22. During that streak he is batting .469 with 10 extra-base hits. The streak is his second of 12 or more games this year and is now fourth in the Southern League in batting at .324.
Representing the Lookouts' pitching staff are right-hander Tyson Brummett and left-hander Chris Reed. Brummett had one of the best months in all of Minor League Baseball in April, compiling an ERA of 0.39 with 19 strikeouts. The right-hander is still ranked among the league leaders in ERA with a 2.38 mark.
Reed is the fifth and final Lookouts' player to be selected for the squad. The southpaw is currently the league-leader in strikeouts with 75 and has fanned nine batters in a game three times this season. To go along with his strikeouts, Reed has a record of 3-3 with an ERA of 3.18.
The Lookouts' All-Stars will be taking the field at home on Tuesday, June 17th for the 2014 Southern League All-Star Game at 7:15 p.m. Tickets for the game start at $9 and can be purchased online here or by calling the box office at 423-267-4TIX.
