Mobile BayBears News Release
MOBILE, AL -- The Southern League has announced the coaching staffs for the 2014 Southern League All-Star Game, scheduled for June 17 at AT&T Field in Chattanooga, TN. The league has selected the Chattanooga Lookouts, the host team, to coach the North Division All-Stars and the Mobile BayBears to coach the South Division All-Stars.
In his first season as manager of the BayBears in 2013, Andy Green led the franchise to a third consecutive Southern League Championship Series as the Mobile squad attempted to win a third-straight championship. The BayBears captured the South Division Championship in both halves and went on to finish with a record of 80-59 before losing in game five of the League Championship Series. Green became the third BayBears' manager to win Southern League Manager of the Year after Turner Ward in 2011 and Mike Ramsey in 1998.
In 2014 so far, Green has the BayBears sitting at the top of the South Division once again with a 34-23 record, two games ahead of the Mississippi Braves. This adds to his total of 174 overall wins across four seasons of managing professional baseball.
Accompanying Green will be the BayBears hitting coach, Jacob Cruz who spent nine seasons in the majors along with pitching coach Wellington Cepeda and trainer Masa Abe.
Lookouts manager Razor Shines will lead the North Division All-Stars joined by Lookouts hitting coach Shawn Wooten, pitching coach Scott Radinsky and trainer Aaron Schumacher. Shines has accumulated 661 wins across ten seasons managing in the minors.
The four-man umpiring crew for the All-Star Game will consist of Matt McCoy who will serve as the crew chief, Blake Felter, Shane Livensparger and Jeremy Riggs. McCoy has been a MiLB umpire for seven years, spending the last three in the Southern League. Felter has been umpiring for six years also spending the last three in the Southern League. Livensparger and Riggs are currently in their second season with the Southern League, sixth overall spent as MiLB umpires.
Mobile and Chattanooga are currently competing in a series with game four of the five game set starting at 7:15 ET Tuesday evening from AT&T Field. After completing a 10 day road trip, the BayBears will return to Mobile for the final home series before the All-Star Break when they open a five game series with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos Wednesday, June 11, at 7:05 PM CT from Hank Aaron Stadium.
