Burg's Double Helps Suns Sink Wahoos 3-2

PENSACOLA, FL - Alex Burg's two-run single in the eighth put the Suns ahead for good as Justin Nicolino and the Jacksonville Suns (31-28) narrowly edged out the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (24-35) 3-2 Tuesday at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium.

Justin Nicolino (W, 5-2) earned his third win in as many starts after holding the Wahoos to two runs (both earned) on six hits in seven innings of work. Nicolino finished with three strikeouts and one walk as he has now worked seven innings and allowed two earned runs or less in each of his last three starts, all of which have been victories.

Greg Nappo (H, 3) tossed a scoreless eighth inning for Jacksonville, with Joey O'Gara (SV, 1) earning his first save as a Sun in 2014 with a scoreless ninth. With runners on the corners and one out in the bottom of the ninth, O'Gara was able to get Yorman Rodriguez to ground into a game-ending 6-3 double play to secure the Suns of the win on Tuesday.

Jamie Walczak (BS, 3; L, 1-3) took the loss for Pensacola by allowing two runs (both earned) on two hits in his inning of work, blowing his third save of the season in the process.

As they did on Monday, the Suns were able to hop on the scoreboard first, plating a lone run in the top of the first inning to grab an early 1-0 advantage.

The Wahoos tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning, when Brodie Green came down to score on Steve Selsky's RBI single.

The game remained tied until Yorman Rodriguez hit a go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Pensacola a 2-1 lead.

The Suns made sure Pensacola's first lead of the game was short-lived. Alex Burg drove in Austin Nola and Austin Barnes to put Jacksonville ahead for good with a two-run double to center as the Suns re-gained the lead at 3-2. In the top of the eighth inning.

The Suns and Blue Wahoos will be back at it for the series finale on Wednesday, with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. CT (7:30 p.m. ET) at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium. The Suns are set to start right-hander Angel Sanchez (0-7, 6.39) in Tuesday's rubber match and he's due to be countered by Pensacola righty Michael Lorenzen (2-4, 2.80).
