Mobile BayBears News Release
CHATTANOOGA, TN -- The Mobile BayBears (34-23) lost on a walk-off for the second time in three days as the Chattanooga Lookouts (23-35) topped the BayBears 7-6 in 10 innings Monday night at AT&T Field. With the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the 10th, Lookouts relief pitcher Juan Noriega walked to push the winning run across home. With the BayBears loss to Chattanooga and a loss by the Mississippi Braves Monday night, Mobile remains two games ahead of Mississippi for first place in the Southern League South Division standings with just 12 games remaining in the league's first half schedule.
Mobile jumped out to an early lead with Jon Griffin putting the BayBears on top in the second inning with a solo home run. In the third, Jake Lamb drove in Sean Jamieson with a RBI triple and Lamb scored on Garrett Weber's RBI single. Griffin homered again in the top half of the fifth. The solo shot was Griffin's second of the game and put Mobile up 4-0.
Chattanooga rallied back in the bottom half of the fifth, posting six runs on seven hits. A total of 10 batters came to the plate in the frame with the Lookouts posting four doubles and three singles. Chattanooga began the inning with a four run deficit and ended it with a two run advantage but the Lookouts lead was short lived as the BayBears tied the game on a two-run triple from Mike Freeman in the top of the sixth.
With two outs in the bottom of the 10th and the game still tied at two, Lookout's third baseman Daniel Mayora doubled off the top of the wall. The BayBears elected to walk the next two batters to load the bases and pitch to the Lookouts RHP Juan Noriega. With the Lookouts bench empty, the 5'7" 145-pound Noriega drew a five pitch walk allowing Mayora to score from third for the Lookouts 7-6 win.
Mobile and Chattanooga continue their series with game four of the five games set starting at 7:15 ET Tuesday evening from AT&T Field. After completing a 10 day road trip, the BayBears will return to Mobile for the final home series before the All-Star Break when they open a five game series with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos Wednesday, June 11, at 7:05 PM CT from Hank Aaron Stadium. Tickets to all BayBears' 2014 home games are available for sale now by calling 251.479.BEAR or online at MobileBayBears.com.
