PENSACOLA, Fla. - Blue Wahoos RHP Carlos Contreras has been activated from the disabled list. In a corresponding move, RHP Shane Dyer has been placed on the disabled list retroactive to 6/1 with a low back muscle strain.

Contreras made four appearances for the Blue Wahoos before going on the disabled list on 4/27 with back spasms. Contreras was 1-1 with a 3.95 ERA as a starter before the injury. He struck out 17 and walked nine over 13.2 innings. Contreras was primarily a reliever early in his career before getting used as a starter in 2013 in Bakersfield and Pensacola. Contreras was a closer for Delino DeShields in Low-A Dayton in 2012 and converted 20 of 24 save tries between Dayton and Bakersfield. His 16 saves were fifth in the Midwest League that year.

Dyer had been serving as the Blue Wahoos closer this year before injuring his back in his final appearance against Birmingham back on 5/24. The right-hander was 0-2 with five saves in six tries for Pensacola. He made 14 appearances and struck out 21 while walking just 11 over 18 innings.

Contreras was a free agent signee out of the Dominican Republic in 2008 and is rated as the No. 7 prospect in the Reds organization coming into this season according to Baseball America. Dyer was signed as a minor league free agent in May, 2013.
