Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
With two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning the Chattanooga Lookouts (23-35) loaded the bases and scored the winning run when pitcher Juan Noriega drew the walk-off walk to deliver the 7-6 win for the Lookouts over the Mobile BayBears (34-23).
Before Noriega's heroics, t he Mobile BayBears jumped out to an early lead in the beginning of the contest when John Griffin smacked his 12th home run of the season in the second inning . After Mobile scored two more runs in the third, Griffin hit his second blast of the day to procure the four-r un lead.
Down four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Lookouts' offense began to click. Red-hot outfielder Scott Schebler led off the inning with a double to left field. After reaching third on a bunt single by Cavazos-Galvez, Schebler scored on a J.C. Boscan single. Ryan Adams followed that up with a pinch-hit RBI double and then Sweeney laced a single into right field to tie the game up at four. The next batter, Noel Cuevas, gave Chattanooga the lead when he launched a double to plate Sweeney. The team's sixth and final run of the inning came on a sacrifice fly by Daniel Mayora.
The two-run lead was short-lived as Michael Freeman belted a two-run double to knot the game up. Both teams' offenses quieted down after the sixth inning, failing to score another run and sending the game into extra-innings.
In the top of the 10th inning pitcher Juan Noriega (W, 3-2) took the mound for his second inning of work and recorded three straight outs after giving up a lead-off walk. BayBears' pitcher Kaleb Fleck was aiming to duplicate Noriega's performance, but faltered on the bump. Daniel Mayora got to Fleck with his 11 double of the season. Fleck proceeded to intentionally walk the next two batters to load up the bases for Noriega. With the 5'7" pitcher at the plate, Fleck could not find the strike zone and put Noriega on first base to score Mayora and end the game.
Tomorrow, the Lookouts and BayBears face off in the fourth game of the series. Chattanooga sends RHP Matt Shelton to the mound who will be making his first start of the year. Shelton will be up against RHP Charles Brewer (1-1, 3,46) at 7:15 p.m.
