APPLETON, WI - Pitcher Casey Fien made a wild throw over third base and down the left field line in the bottom of the tenth inning to allow Ron Garth to score from second with the winning run in a 5-4 Whitecaps loss at Wisconsin. The loss snapped a five game winning streak for West Michigan.

The Whitecaps trailed 4-1 after six innings but rallied for two runs in the seventh on RBI singles by Santo De Leon and Scott Sizemore. De Leon tied the game in the ninth with an RBI double.

Brandon Timm scored the tying following a lead off triple to left center. Center fielder Gavin Dickey overran the ball and may have lost it in the sun.

In the bottom of the tenth, Fien allowed a lead off double to Garth. Alex Liddi attempted a sacrifice bunt that was fielded by Fien, but thrown over De Leon at third, which allowed Garth to score.

Timm went 3-for-5 in the game with an RBI in addition to the triple and run scored in the ninth. The left fielder became the third Whitecaps this season to steal three bases, joining Deik Scram and James Skelton who each accomplished the feat against Quad Cities.

For the first time this season, Timm played the infield when he moved to first base in the bottom of the tenth. Starting first baseman Ryan Strieby was lifted for pinch runner Gorkys Hernandez in the top of the tenth. Hernandez went to the outfield for the bottom of the tenth.

Luis Marte and Brett Jensen combined to throw 2.1 innings of scoreless relief behind Jeff Gerbe, who allowed four runs (3 ER) in 5.2 innings as the West Michigan starter.

Steve Richard blew a save opportunity for the Timber Rattlers, but pitched both the ninth and tenth to earn the victory.

Wisconsin has the worst overall record in the Midwest League at 42-74 but is 8-1 in extra inning games. The Whitecaps have the second best record in the league at 70-49 and are 4-5 in extra innings.
