Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL - After winning four straight games, the Kane County Cougars have now lost consecutive games after a 5-2 loss Sunday afternoon against the Peoria Chiefs in front of 11,346 at Elfstrom Stadium, the third straight crowd of 10,000-plus.

Greg Dowling's two-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the ninth off Alex Maestri accounted for the Cougars' only runs. It was Dowling's 12th homer of the season and third in as many games.

Starter Henry Rodriguez (5-8) gave up three runs -- single tallies in the first, fifth and seventh -- on five hits, walked five, struck out a season-high eight and lasted a career-high 6 2/3 innings. Eric Sheridan allowed an unearned run in the eighth, and Andrew Carignan gave up an unearned one in the ninth. The Chiefs' starter Robert Hernandez (5-7) picked up the win.

The Cougars (25-23), who are now 3.5 games behind the Chiefs (29-20) for the second playoff spot in the Western Division, travel to Peoria for another pair against their intra-state rival. The clubs meet Monday night at 7 CT when Trevor Cahill (7-4) faces Al Alburquerque (1-3).
