CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - The Cedar Rapids struck for 12 hits and eight runs and tied their four-game series with the Great Lakes Loons at one game each with an 8-4 victory.
Tyler Johnson had two triples and two RBIs, Wil Ortiz had three hits and a pair of runs driven home, and Peter Bourjos added a trio of hits including a triple. Cedar Rapids struck for three runs in the first inning and never trailed.
Paul Coleman (2-3) started for the Loons and went 5 1/3 innings allowing five runs (all earned) to record the loss.
Matt Berezay had two hits to extend his hitting streak to 11 games. Juan Apodaca drove in three of the Loons' four runs on a two-run single and a sacrifice fly. Scott Van Slyke and Brian Mathews added two hits each for the Loons.
The Loons and Kernels meet for Game Three of this four game series Monday evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Game time is 8pm ET. The game can be heard on the flagship home of Loons' baseball, 100.9 WYLZ.
The Loons next return to Dow Diamond Thursday and Friday for a two game series against Dayton. Tickets for that series and all 11 remaining home dates for the 2007 season are available by logging on to Loons.com.
