Fisher Cats Coming Home Looking to Wrap up Playoff Berth

(Trenton, NJ)- Darin Mastroianni led off the game with a double and came around to score on a wild pitch, but the Fisher Cats fell to Trenton 2-1 on Wednesday night at Waterfront Park.

Randy Boone (4-9) threw his second consecutive complete game, but this time took the loss when Trenton scored two runs (one unearned) in the bottom of the seventh inning. In all, Boone allowed six hits, did not walk a batter and struck out three.

In the seventh, Trenton's Austin Krum singled, Daniel Brewer singled, and both moved up on an error. Austin Romine's ground out scored Krum and Brewer came across with the winning run on a single by Corban Joseph (2-for-3).

Trenton starter Adam Warren worked the first six innings, allowing one earned run. He walked one and struck out six. J.B. Cox (3-0) picked up the win, throwing two scoreless innings. Closer Ryan Pope finished up with a perfect ninth for his 15th save.

New Hampshire managed only three hits in the game, the other two were by Callix Crabbe, who had singles in the third and fifth innings.

The top two teams in the Eastern League's Eastern Division will make the playoffs. Trenton (77-53) is in first place, leading the Fisher Cats (74-55) by 2-1/2 games.

Third-place Binghamton (62-66) lost to New Britain on Wednesday night. The Fisher Cats have a magic number of two to clinch a post-season berth for the first time since the 2004 Eastern League Championship season.

New Hampshire can wrap up a playoff berth when the final homestand of the regular season begins on Thursday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium against the Portland Sea Dogs. Game time is 7:05pm. It will be Goodwill Night. It will also be another rendition of Citizens Bank Kids Run The Show and an Atlas Fireworks Show will follow the game.

The Fisher Cats will turn to right-hander Scott Richmond (0-0, 1.80) in the opener against Portland right-hander Stephen Fife (6-6, 5.12). The game can be heard on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman beginning at 6:45pm.
