Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, Pa. - Altoona's bid for a sweep was stymied by the Erie SeaWolves and starter Adam Wilk (1-0) on Wednesday night at BCB as the 'Wolves topped the Curve, 3-1. Wilk, who was making his Double-A debut, tossed eight scoreless innings and permitted just three baserunners to reach during his eight innings of work.

Erie plated the first run of the game in the second inning off Curve starter Justin Wilson (10-7). Billy Nowlin began the inning with a single but Wilson countered with back-to-back strikeouts of Deik Scram and Andy Bouchie for the first two outs of the inning. Kyle Peter delivered a two-out single to center that moved Nowlin to third. Leadoff man Alden Carrithers followed with a single into left that scored Nowlin and put the SeaWolves up, 1-0.

Wilson permitted two more runs in the fourth but only one of them was earned as the Curve committed two defensive miscues in the inning. It was again Nowlin leading off the frame with a single but this time he came home on an RBI double off the bat of Bouchie to make it, 2-0. Bouchie scored later in the inning on a fielder's choice by Carrithers and Erie had its, 3-0, lead.

The Anaheim, Calif. native departed after four innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits with three walks and six strikeouts. With the six strikeouts, Wilson now has 125 total strikeouts in 2010. He is now second in franchise history behind Ian Snell's 142 strikeouts in 2004.

Altoona didn't record its first hit until Matt Hague singled with two away in the fourth and they wouldn't record their next hit until Andrew Lambo doubled in Chase d'Arnaud in the ninth with one away to bring the Curve within two.

Hague grounded out for the second out of the ninth and moved Lambo to third. Tuesday night's hero Jordy Mercer grounded to short to end the game.

Michael Colla kept the Curve in it with four scoreless innings of relief, which tied a Double-A season high for the right hander. Ramon Aguero made his first appearance since being activated off the disabled list on Monday and pitched a perfect ninth.

D'Arnaud stole his 32nd base of the season in the ninth inning on Wednesday, which moved him past Nate McLouth for steals in one season. He is now tied for fourth all-time with Chris Duffy, who also stole 32 bases in 2004.

Altoona (76-53) will look to bounce back on Thursday as they welcome in the Flying Squirrels for a four-game series beginning at 5:30 p.m. The two teams will play the remainder of a suspended game from July 12 with Altoona trailing, 6-3, in the bottom of the fourth inning. After that game is completed to its full nine innings, the two teams will play the shortened regularly scheduled game (seven innings).

The Curve sends LHP Rudy Owens (10-6, 2.67) to the mound in game two while Richmond sends RHP Craig Westcott (3-1, 5.03) to the hill. Pittsburgh Penguins right winger Pascal Dupuis will be at Blair County Ballpark on Thursday night thanks to Altoona Trackers, Glacial Energy and Advanced Chiropractic. He'll throw out the ceremonial first pitch before game two and then sign autographs for approximately 90 minutes during the second game of the evening.

Thursday is also a Thirsty Thursday in Curve, PA. with 16 oz. Yuengling drafts on special for $2 and small sodas on special for $1.50 during the game. It's a Weis Buy Thursday as well and fans who bring their Weis Preferred Shoppers' Card to the box office can receive $2 off Grandstand tickets.

Pregame coverage begins at 5 p.m. on flagship ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network. Great seats are still available for the remainder of the homestand by calling 877.99.CURVE, visiting www.AltoonaCurve.com or by stopping in to the box office at BCB.
