
R-Phils Open Super Series with Binghamton Thursday

(Reading, PA) -- The Reading Phillies 2010 season, presented by Pepsi, launches into superstar status and takes flight into the final homestand of the season with a super eight-day, nine-game homestand beginning on Thursday, August 26. Headlined by SAVE Gluttony Night, a Tribute to Elvis Night, a Dead Head Night, a Harley Night doubleheader, the Reading Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, four fireworks shows, and more, the final homestand of the season is sure to go out with a bang.
Tickets for all upcoming R-Phils home games are still available and can be purchased in-person at FirstEnergy Stadium, by calling (610) 375-8469, or online at readingphillies.com.
On Thursday, August 26, the R-Phils are set to open a five-game, four-day super series against Berks native Zach Lutz and the Binghamton Mets, with first pitch of Thursday's contest set for 7:05 p.m. Thursday is Food Allergy Awareness/Peanut Free Night at the stadium, and anyone with a peanut allergy is welcome to come out to the game and enjoy a great night of peanut-free baseball at FirstEnergy Stadium. As part of the night, the R-Phils will refrain from selling peanuts, cracker jacks, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
Food court gates open at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, and all fans 21 and older can enjoy $1.00 off select beers from 5:00-6:00 p.m. for Happy Hour. Thursday also marks the 7th Annual Beer Tasting Festival at the Pool and for just $26 per person, fans can enjoy two hours of beer tasting and a 2 1/2 hour All-You-Can-Eat buffet at the Reading Eagle Pool Picnic Area.
The R-Phils will also hold another exciting Dead Head Night, courtesy of Rock Hits Y102. All fans can enjoy a great 90-minute musical performance from Good Lovin' Jamband, who will take the Classic Café stage from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. Grateful Dead fans can also enjoy the sounds of Dead Head tunes throughout the entire evening. After the game, make sure to stick around for a great post-game fireworks show, and then head back to the Classic Café for a great concert from Good Lovin' Jamband.
Berks native Zach Lutz, a product of Alvernia College, is set to make his hometown debut when the two teams battle in the super series. The B-Mets' 3B is currently hitting .286 with 16 home runs and 37 RBIs for Binghamton, through August 25. Originally selected by the N.Y. Mets in the fifth round of the 2007 draft, Lutz, 24, was named Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending August 1. The 6'1", 220 pound-slugger was a high school standout at Governor Mifflin High and also excelled while playing for Shillington American Legion teams.
On Friday, the R-Phils and Binghamton Mets will battle at 7:05 p.m. in game two, and the R-Phils will pay tribute to Elvis Presley, featuring Jeff Krick, thanks to 830 AM WEEU. Food court gates will once again open at 5:00 p.m. and all fans 21 and older can enjoy $1.00 off select beers from 5:00-6:00 p.m. for Happy Hour. Jeff Krick will take the Classic Café as Elvis Presley and sing great Elvis tunes for 60-magical minutes (5:15 - 6:15). Jeff will later perform on-field during an exciting pre-game show.
Friday's game is also a 4 for $48 Family Night, and fans can get four yellow box seat tickets, four sodas, four hot dogs, and the opportunity to play catch on the field before the 7:05 p.m. contest, thanks to Capital BlueCross. After the game, fans will want to stick around and watch the R-Phils light-up the sky with a spectacular fireworks show, courtesy of Carpenter Technology Corp. After the fireworks, head over to the Classic Café for another great performance from Jeff Krick.
On Saturday, August 28 at 5:35 p.m. the R-Phils will play Binghamton twice, as the two clubs are set for a dazzling doubleheader. The twin bill will be played on Harley Night at America's Classic Ballpark, and the first 2,500 adults 18 and over will receive an R-Phils Harley Style Hat, Black with Flames, courtesy of Classic Harley-Davidson. The night will also feature post-game fireworks thanks to Classic Harley-Davidson.
Food Court gates open at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 28, and the R-Phils Mascot Band, presented by National Penn Bank will take the stage for an exciting musical performance (4:30 - 5:15 p.m.). Fans 21 and older can enjoy $1.00 off select beers from 4:00-5:00 p.m. for Happy Hour. Kids can also enjoy a Happy Half Hour with free Phunland for Redner's R-Phils Kids Club members from 4:00 - 4:30 p.m.
Harley Night will be a night for all to remember, and one lucky fan will win a 2010 Harley Dyna Super Glide, as part of the Classic Harley-Davidson MDA Harley Raffle. The fun night will also include a parade of Harleys on the field between both games of the doubleheader. Also, in-between games, the R-Phils will have an exciting concert by Alligator Blues on the Classic Café stage. Game two will begin approximately 20-30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
The fun continues after the doubleheader is over, as the R-Phils have a great post-game planned for all who attend. After the final out of game two, fans will want to stick around for a spectacular post-game fireworks show, thanks to Classic Harley-Davidson. After the fireworks, fans can make their way back to the Classic Café, as Alligator Blues will return to the stage for a fantastic post-game concert.
On Sunday afternoon, the R-Phils are set to host Lutz and the Binghamton Mets in the finale of their four-day, five-game super series, with first-pitch set for 1:05 p.m. The first 2,000 kids who come out to the park will receive an R-Phils 2010 Team Baseball Card Set, courtesy of Angel 34 Foundation, Unique Baking Co., and Macy's. The team card set features Domonic Brown, Matt Rizzotti, Michael Spidale, and the rest of the 2010 squad.
Sunday's game also marks the seventh and final free ticket game for all Redner's R-Phils Kids Club members, thanks to Redner's Warehouse Markets, Reading Eagle, and 69 News Berks Edition. Kids Club members and their families can enter FirstEnergy Stadium at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, and enjoy an exclusive Kids Club pre-game R-Phils Team Autograph Session with Reading Phillies players from 11:00 - 11:45 a.m.
Great food and fun continue at America's Classic Ballpark, as Sundays are also Dollar Dog days. All fans can chow down on delicious $1.00 hot dogs, thanks to Stroehmann's and Berks Packing. Fans will also want to stick around after the game, as every Sunday home game also gives all fans the chance to take part in a Post-Game Run the Bases, thanks to 69 News Berks Edition.
