Manchester, New Hampshire - The Somerset Patriots (6-4) allowed a season-high 12 hits in a 7-3 loss to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (4-6) Friday night at Delta Dental Stadium.
The Fisher Cats opened the scoring with three hits in the bottom of the first against Somerset starter Glenn Otto (L, 1-1), including a two-out RBI double from Jordan Groshans.
Gabriel Moreno grounded a two-out RBI single in the third and Reggie Pruitt lined an RBI single in the sixth against Otto to add to the damage. After Otto left with one out and the bases loaded in the sixth, all three baserunners left came home to score on a wild pitch and a two-run double from Vinny Capra.
Despite Otto's final line, the Yankees' 2017 fifth-round draft pick did strike out a season-high eight batters over his 5.1 innings of work.
The Patriots briefly came within a run in both the third and sixth innings. Oswaldo Cabrera's RBI single in the third made the score 2-1 at the time. Later in the sixth, Dermis Garcia plated a run on a sac fly to make it a 3-2 ballgame. Garcia added to his nice night with a solo home run (1) in the top of the ninth to finish the evening's scoring.
Maximo Castillo (W, 1-1) earned the win after he yielded one run on five hits over five innings of work.
The Patriots continue their six-game series in New Hampshire Saturday night. Righty Luis Gil (0-0, 4.05 ERA) takes the mound for Somerset against Fisher Cats southpaw Zach Logue (1-0, 4.66 ERA). First pitch at Delta Dental Stadium is set for 6:35 p.m.
