Reading Fightin Phils News Release
The Reading Fightin Phils fell to the Bowie Baysox, 11-5 on Friday night. The R-Phils were leading through four and a half after three home runs, but a grand slam put the Baysox in the lead for good. Orioles outfielder Anthony Santander will be rehabbing for the rest of the weekend in Bowie.
McCarthy Tatum led things off with his second home run of the series to put the Fightins up 2-0. Then in the top of the fourth Nick Matera also notched his second shot of the 2021 season. Matt Vierling added his own flair, sending a ball to deep left center field. Vierling added another RBI to his belt when he singled in Matera in the seventh.
Bowie's offense trickled in consistently throughout the game, scoring first in the third and tacking two more in the fourth. Their big burst came in the bottom of the fifth inning when Patrick Dorrian hit a grand slam to right center field. Bowie put up a five spot in that half inning. They weren't done at the plate just yet as they added another run in the sixth and two more in the seventh.
Taylor Lehman got the start for the Fightins pitching a brilliant three innings giving up only one hit and one earned run, striking out three. Jonathan Hennigan took the ball in relief throwing one inning allowing five earned runs. Mark Potter followed out of the 'pen and Bowie took him deep for a grand slam. Though most of the runs were slated back to Hennigan. Andrew Brown took the sixth and Jakob Hernandez pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth.
Bowie handed the ball to Kevin Smith who went 3.2 innings allowing two earned runs and notching four strikeouts. Tyler Erwin was first out of the bullpen going an inning and a third giving up two earned runs. Ofelky Peralta followed for four innings of one hit ball to get the job done.
