New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Manchester, NH - The Toronto Blue Jays have assigned newly acquired pitching prospects RHP Corey Copping and RHP Hector Perez to the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, after completing two trades in the waning hours of Monday's MLB Trade Deadline.

Perez, a 22-year-old hurler from Santo Domingo, D.R., is one of three players heading to the Blue Jays organization from the Houston Astros system in the deal for Roberto Osuna, along with Ken Giles and David Paulino. MLB.com ranks Perez No. 11 among Blue Jays prospects, between former Fisher Cats pitchers Sean Reid-Foley (No. 10) and Ryan Borucki (No. 12). Perez had made four appearances (two starts) with the Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks prior to the deal, posting a 3.24 ERA while striking out 18 batters in 16.2 innings.

Copping, a 24-year-old reliever from Pasadena, CA, was acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for RHP John Axford. Copping was a member of the Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers at the time of the deal, allowing just two runs in his first 7.1 innings (2.45 ERA). The Dodgers selected Copping in the 31st round of the 2015 MLB Draft out of the University of Oklahoma. He was named a Texas League All-Star as a member of the Double-A Tulsa Drillers in 2017.

After opening a six-game homestand with an 11-5 win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels (San Francisco Giants), the first place Fisher Cats (61-44) continue the series with a 12:05 p.m. game on Wednesday at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

The Fisher Cats magic number to clinch a playoff spot is 24, with 34 games to play.
