Reading Fightin Phils News Release
(Reading, PA) - Wednesday night's game between the Fightin Phils and Thunder played out eerily similar to game one's series opener. The Fightins grabbed the early lead, only to watch the starter lock in and shut them down for the remainder of the night. Ryan Bollinger kept Reading at bay over six innings, and the Thunder eventually came back to score six unanswered runs for a 6-1 win in the first meeting between the two that wasn't decided by two runs or less.
Bollinger's only rough inning was in the second when he hit Cornelius Randolph with a 1-2 pitch that got away to keep the inning going with two outs. A four pitch walk to Jiandido Tromp brought up Austin Bossart, and the catcher came through with a single through the left side for a quick 1-0 lead.
Fightins starter Connor Seabold was building off seven dominant innings in Richmond in his most recent start, and was on his way through four hitless frames against the Thunder. The whole game changed in the fifth when Jeff Hendrix led off with an infield single and catcher Jorge Saez knocked Seabold out of the game with a line drive back to the mound. Eventually, Mandy Alvarez tied the game with a sacrifice fly before the Thunder went ahead for good in the sixth.
Kyle Holder and Jhalan Jackson hit back-to-back singles, with a sacrifice bunt and a walk to Saez loading the bases for number nine hitter Rashad Crawford. The left fielder smacked a two-RBI single, with all three runners coming around to score on a throwing error from Bossart trying to get Crawford at second base.
Kyle Dohy looked impressive when he struck out the side following a leadoff single in the seventh. But in the eighth, Saez took him deep to left for his first home run and a 6-1 Thunder lead. Edgar Garcia took care of the last five outs, adding four strikeouts as he extended his scoreless innings streak to seven-and-a-third in his last six appearances. Bossart, Adam Haseley, and Darick Hall all finished with two hits, while Damek Tomscha added an eighth inning single.
