Trenton Thunder News Release
Ryan Bollinger turned in a masterful start for the Thunder on Wednesday night, and the bats rallied back in the middle innings en route to a 6-1 win over the Reading Fightin Phils at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Bollinger allowed just one run on three hits over six innings of work, striking out five and retiring nine of the final 10 batters he faced. The Fightin Phils scored their only run of the game off Bollinger in the second on an RBI-single by Austin Bossart.
Reading starter Connor Seabold held the Thunder hitless across his first four innings, but in the fifth, the right-hander allowed a leadoff single to Jeff Hendrix. The following batter, Jorge Saez, struck Seabold with a line drive that forced the right-hander out of the game. Seth McGarry entered in emergency relief, and after Rashad Crawford bunted Hendrix and Saez to third and second, respectively, a walk to Trey Amburgey loaded the bases ahead of a game-tying sacrifice fly to right field by Mandy Alvarez.
The Thunder loaded the bases against McGarry again in the sixth on a pair of singles and a walk. Crawford then delivered a single to right field, scoring two runs to give Trenton a 3-1 lead. But on the throw to the plate from right field, Crawford headed for second, drawing a wild throw from catcher Bossart that allowed Saez, the trailing runner, to score a third run.
In the eighth, the Thunder tallied their final runs on a towering two-run homer to left field by Saez, his first of the season.
Trevor Lane provided two scoreless innings of relief for Trenton, including escaping a bases-loaded jam in the eighth, and Matt Wivinis recorded a perfect ninth inning to clinch the series victory with the Thunder's fourth consecutive win.
Your Thunder continue the series on Thursday night at 7:15 p.m. against the Fightin Phils. RHP Trevor Stephan (2-7, 4.61) will start for the Thunder, and RHP Felix Paulino (1-0, 5.00) will go for Reading. Pre-game coverage begins at 7 p.m. on 920 AM The Jersey, or online at TrentonThunder.com.
