Hartford Yard Goats News Release
Binghamton, NY - Binghamton right-hander Scott Copeland and two relievers combined on a shutout, as the Rumble Ponies defeated the Hartford Yard Goats 2-0 on Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton, New York. The former Major League pitcher Copeland, who appeared with the Orioles and Blue Jays, hurled seven scoreless innings for his sixth win. Hartford went 1 for 9 with runners in scoring position and hit into four double plays. The Yard Goats failed to score two leadoff doubles in the contest and squandered first and third situation with nobody out in the eighth inning. Hartford loaded the bases in the ninth inning but Corey Taylor retired Omar Carrizales to end the game. The Yard Goats will attempt to win three of four from the Rumble Ponies with a victory tomorrow night. Tomas Nido, who was with the New York Mets earlier this season, scored both runs and cranked his fourth home run.
The Rumble Ponies scored the first run of the game in the second inning off Yard Goats starter Jesus Tinoco as Josh Allen ripped a two out single scoring former New York Mets catcher Tomas Nido, and giving Binghamton a 1-0 lead.
The Rumble Ponies made it 2-0 in the fourth inning on Tomas Nido's solo home run. The Binghamton catcher cranked a pitch over the left center field fence for his fourth homer of the season, giving the Mets affiliate at 2-0 edge. It was the 21st home run allowed by Tinoco, the most in the Eastern League.
Scott Copeland, who fired seven scoreless innings, started the eighth and Ryan Metzler led off with a double and Omar Carrizales reached on a strikeout/wild pitch. David Roseboom came in out of the bullpen and struck out Nelson Molina and pinch hitter Roberto Ramos. Then Corey Taylor struck out Mylz Jones to end the threat.
The Yard Goats loaded the bases in the ninth inning with three consecutive two out singles by Dom Nunez, Brian Mundell and Ryan Metzler but Taylor got Omar Carrizales to ground out to end the game.
The Yard Goats wrap up the four game in three-day series against the Rumble Ponies on Thursday night (6:35 PM) at NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton, New York. The game will be broadcast on AM 1410 WPOP and streamed on newsradio.1410.com and MiLB.com.
