Fish Drop Second Game to Saltdogs
June 6, 2012 - American Association (AA)
Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
For the first time in Lincoln, the Winnipeg Goldeyes couldn't find a clutch hit.
Winnipeg (12-6) left the tying run on second base in the top of the ninth inning in a 3-1 loss to the Lincoln Saltdogs (10-10) Wednesday night before 2,466 fans at Haymarket Park.
With two outs in the top of the ninth inning, Ridge Carpenter singled and Amos Ramon doubled to put runners on second and third. But, David Narodowski struck out swinging to end the game.
Lincoln scored all three of its runs in the game in the fifth inning on two hits and was aided by a Goldeyes error that ultimately kept the inning going.
Winnipeg tallied its only run in the sixth inning when Jon Weber singled to score Price Kendall from second base.
Goldeyes' starter Fabian Williamson allowed just three runs over seven innings, but gets hit with his third loss of the season. Justin Edwards, who also tossed seven innings, picks up the win for the Saltdogs.
The game was played in a brisk two hours and 20 minutes, which is the fastest game the Goldeyes have played in this season.
Despite the loss, Winnipeg remains two and a half games up on the St. Paul Saints for first place in the American Association's North Division because the Saints fell 9-2 to the Can-Am League's New Jersey Jackals in interleague play.
The Goldeyes will be out the split the four-game series tomorrow night in the fourth and final contest. It will be a pair of southpaws on the mound with Winnipeg throwing Zach Baldwin, while the Saltdogs will start Tony Butler.
The pre-game show on TSN 1290 with Paul Edmonds begins at 6:30 p.m. and game time is 7:00 p.m.
