American Association Game Recaps
June 6, 2012 - American Association (AA) News Release
Lincoln 3, Winnipeg 1
The Saltdogs went from being locked in a scoreless tie to holding a dominating, 3-0 lead with one swing of RF Stephen Holdren's bat. Holdren cleared the bases with a two-out double. The two-bagger, one of Holdren's two hits on the evening, was his fourth of the season. Winnipeg scored a run in the sixth on a single from 1B Jon Weber, but that was all the Goldeyes could muster. Weber went 2-for-3 with his team's sole RBI. Lincoln starting pitcher Justin Edwards threw seven innings and allowed only one run while striking out as many batters (7) as he allowed hits.
Wichita 11, Sioux City 7
After falling behind by five runs early, the Wingnuts scored seven runs in three innings to make a game of their contest with Sioux City. Wichita got multiple RBI from each of their fourth through seventh batters to power past the Explorers, 11-7. Wichita clean-up 3B Juan Richardson scored twice and batted in two runs while going 2-for-4 with a walk. Richardson also hit his second double of the year. The Wingnuts scored four runs in the seventh frame, turning a one-run squeaker into a five-run lead, thanks in large part to a two-run homer from 1B CJ Ziegler. Ziegler went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Explorers LF Yusuke Inoguchi had a game-high three hits in five at-bats and scored a run.
Kansas City 8, Fargo-Moorhead 3
Four Kansas City batters picked up multiple hits against Fargo-Moorhead on Wednesday, as the T-Bones beat the RedHawks, 8-3. T-Bones C Trevor Coleman led all players in hits, going 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI, his ninth of the year. Coleman's counterpart behind the plate for the RedHawks Todd Jennings also had three hits, picking them up in four at-bats with a game-high two RBI. Starting Kansas City pitcher Matt Mitchell tossed 7.1 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks with four strikeouts, lowering his ERA to 4.68. Edwards got most of his run support early, with the T-Bones putting five runs in the first two frames on just four hits.
Amarillo 4, El Paso 3
Sox DH Tim Alberts hit a two-run homer in the first inning, and Amarillo never trailed en route to a 4-3 win. Alberts - whose first-frame blast accounted for his fifth of the year - went 2-for-4 with a run and three RBI. With the early run support lending plenty of help, starting Amarillo pitcher Ryan Mitchell earned his second win of the season, throwing seven innings and striking out six while allowing three runs on five hits. No El Paso batter had more than one hit. If there was an offensive standout, however, it was LF Brian Joynt. Joynt batted in two runs while going 1-for-3 with a walk.
Laredo at Grand Prairie (Postponed - Rain)
The game between Laredo and Grand Prairie was postponed due to rain. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader on June 11 with the first game beginning at 6:05 p.m. Each game will consist of seven innings.
