Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

Thanks to Mother Nature, the Winnipeg Goldeyes were done early and still took the victory Monday night.

Winnipeg (21-16) beat the Sioux City Explorers (18-20) 5-4 in a rain-shortened five innings at Lewis and Clark Park in Sioux City.

The Goldeyes move to within a game of the St. Paul Saints for first place in the American Association's North Division.

The Goldeyes never trailed in the game, but Sioux City never let them get too far ahead. Winnipeg scored once in the first, only to see Sioux City respond in the second to tie the game.

Winnipeg took the lead for good in the third when Brian Myrow and Jon Weber hit back-to-back RBI singles. Sioux City replied with a run in the bottom of the third.

Weber smacked a two-run double in the fifth inning, which turned out to be in the game-winning hit. Sioux City tallied twice in the bottom of the fifth to cut the Goldeyes lead to 5-4, but then the heavy rains set in, forcing the end of the game.

Chris Salamida pitched all five innings for the Goldeyes to get the win, while Dave Trahan takes the loss for Sioux City.

The two sides meet again Tuesday night in Sioux City. Game time is 7 p.m. All the action can be heard live on Sports Radio 1290, beginning with the pre-game show at 6:30 p.m.
