American Association Game Recaps

Published on June 20, 2011 under American Association (AA) News Release

Winnipeg 5, Sioux City 4 (5 innings)

Nursing a 5-4 lead with the tying Sioux City run on second base, starting Winnipeg pitcher Chris Salamida rose to the occasion. With wet weather moving through Sioux City, the potential for the fifth being the final inning was high. Salamida buckled down and struck out two straight Explorers batters to preserve his team's one-run lead, an advantage that became the final when the contest was called due to rain. Salamida earned the win, his third in eight starts, after throwing five innings and allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Goldeyes LF Brian Myrow kicked off the scoring in the first, singling in Kody Kaiser to put Winnipeg on top, 1-0. The Goldeyes never trailed with Sioux City managing to tie the score just once at 1-1 in the second. Myrow finished the game 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI.

Sioux Falls 9, Kansas City 5 (8 innings)

Pheasants 1B Brandon Sing hit his 13th home run of the season - a solo shot - against Kansas City and added a three-run double and an RBI walk for good measure. When all was said and done, Sing was 3-for-3 with three runs and five RBI, powering Sioux Falls' 9-5 rain-shortened win over Kansas City. Sing wasn't the only batter feeling it Monday night. Two more Pheasants - RF Gus Milner and CF Reggie Abercrombie - also notched long balls, as well as T-Bones batters Ray Sadler and Kala Kaaihue. But when weather eventually forced umpires to call the game, Sing's big night was too much for the T-Bones to overcome, even with their also-respectable offensive performance.

Grand Prairie 15, Shreveport-Bossier 2

Already holding a four-run lead in the ninth, Grand Prairie piled on the runs, batting around the lineup and plating nine on eight hits in the final frame. Four AirHogs picked up three hits against the Captains, including 3B Cesar Nicolas, who led all batters with three RBI. Nicolas also scored a run in the ninth. Starting Grand Prairie pitcher Jason Jennings earned his fifth win of the season, throwing seven innings and allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five. But when the offense racks up 21 hits, starting pitching often becomes a moot point, as it did late in Monday's contest. Captains RF Bryan Sabatella went 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI, his 28th of the year, to lead Shreveport-Bossier.

St. Paul vs. Lincoln (Postponed)

The game between St. Paul and Lincoln was postponed due to rain. The contest will be made up as part of a doubleheader Tuesday beginning at 5:30 p.m. Both games will be seven innings.
