Firebirds Win Again, Tonight's Preview & Promotions

Florida Panthers' prospect Vladislav Kolyachonok scored the game-winning goal 2:00 into overtime to lift the Flint Firebirds (6-3-0-0) who are off to their best start in franchise history to a 4-3 victory over the Kitchener Rangers before 6,472 fans at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Friday night. With the win, Flint snapped Kitchener's home undefeated streak of five games to start the season. Flint is now 3-1-1-0 in their last 5 games at 'The Aud' and are 5-3-1-0 all-time in Kitchener.

Ethan Keppen (Vancouver Canucks), Riley McCourt and Cody Morgan both recorded two point games, Anthony Popovich made 27 saves on 30 shots and Braeden Kressler tallied an assist in his debut in his hometown of Kitchener.

Preview: Firebirds & Battalion meet on First Responders Appreciation Night Saturday

Flint, Mich. - The Firebirds return home Saturday to face the North Bay Battalion on 'First Responders Night.' Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. (ET) at the Dort Federal Event Center in Flint. The Firebirds (3-0-0-0) and the Peterborough Petes (1-0-0-0) are the only two teams in the 20-team Ontario Hockey League (OHL) that are undefeated on home ice.

Friday marks the first of two meetings between the two clubs this season, and the only contest in Flint. All-time, the Firebirds hold a record of 1-5-1-1 versus the Troops. Flint went 0-1-1-0 in the series last season, picking up one point on the road in an overtime defeat.

OHL News - Radio Edition with host Terry Doyle and presented by Bauer brings fans insight from feature guests as well as news and notes from around the league each and every week over the airwaves.

This week's segment features Flint Firebirds Director of Broadcasting & Communications Dominic Hennig, play-by-play voice of the club throughout its time in the Ontario Hockey League.

Doyle and Hennig discuss Flint's best start in the club's five-year history, earning them an honourable mention in the latest edition of the Kia CHL Top 10 Rankings. Further dialogue covers the Firebirds' high level of confidence in the young season thus far, attributing some of that to head coach Eric Wellwood who has embarked on his first full season with the club. The exciting additions of recent OHL Champions in Anthony Popovich and Owen Lalonde from the Guelph Storm is also discussed.
