Attack Extend Win Streak to Five with 4-1 Victory over Sudbury
October 19, 2019 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release
The Owen Sound Attack welcomed top 2020 NHL Draft prospect Quinton Byfield and the Sudbury Wolves to the Bayshore tonight looking to extend the season long winning streak to five games. A sold out crowd was hoping for the same against the highest scoring team in the league. Mack Guzda received the start for the home side and Mitchell Weeks was in net for the visitors.
Things started out slowly between the two teams, the Attack coming off a week of rest and the Wolves having played last night against the Colts. Shots were 2 apiece for the teams past the 8 minute mark of the opening frame. Just past the halfway point, Carter Robertson had a fantastic individual rush into the Wolves end. The puck bounced around in front of the Sudbury netminder until the rookie Ethan Burroughs buried it to open the scoring and give the Attack an early lead. Things would remain scoreless for the remainder of the period and the Attack would head to the 1st intermission ahead in shots 9-7 and ahead on the scoreboard, 1-0.
In the second, a parade to the penalty box began for both teams. Eight infractions were called in the frame, with both teams capitalizing. Owen Sound took advantage first after an Owen Robinson slashing call. McMaster entered the zone with speed alongside Aidan Dudas and eventually redirected a puck with his backside into the open net. The Attack had a 2-0 lead, but it wouldn't last until intermission. The Wolves found themselves on a 2 man advantage, and Shane Bulitka found space in front of the Attack goal. Bulitka put it past a sprawling Guzda after a scramble to cut the Owen Sound lead to one. The period would end with the Attack ahead 2-1.
The two teams decided to take a more disciplined approach to the third period. After an early cross checking call against the Wolves, both teams stayed out of the box for the majority of the frame. Four minutes into the period, the Attack extended their lead at even strength with an awkward bounce and a little bit of puck luck. It took a while for the official scorers to figure out who put it in the net, but eventually it was decided that Andrew Perrott received credit for his 1st of the season, and the Attack were up 3-1. Owen Sound continued to hold the highest scoring team in the league in check, and eventually Matt Philip found the empty net to ice the victory with a 4-1 win. The Attack win streak is now up to 5 consecutive games.
The Hatten Home Building Centre Hardest Working Player was Carter Robertson. The Owen Sound Bug Juice North Stars Three Stars were Andrew Perrott with 1 goal and 1 assist, Carter Robertson with one assist, and Mack Guzda with 24 saves in the victory.
The Owen Sound Attack look to extend their five game streak as they meet the Colts in Barrie on Thursday night. The Attack return home next Saturday for a match with the North Bay Battalion. Tickets are available at the MacVicar & McComb Remax Attack Box Office and online.
