Pekar's Hat-Trick Leads Colts to Big Win over Greyhounds

The Barrie Colts were back in action tonight against the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. The Colts were coming off of three straight losses and were looking to get back into the win column in their third game in three nights.

In the first period it was overage defenceman Christopher Cameron getting his first goal of the season to open the scoring. Jason Willms assisted on the goal. Arturs Silovs stood tall throughout the period making great saves to end the first with the Colts ahead 1-0.

In the first minute of the second period, Matej Pekar would find the back of the net. Luke Bignell and Jason Willms added the assists. Under two minutes later it was Bignell scoring, assisted by Tyler Tucker and Brandt Clarke. The Greyhounds responded with three goals in three minutes. First it was Dominic Mufarreh scoring, with Tye Kartye and Alex Johnston assisting. Then, on the penalty kill, it was Johnston scoring short-handed, assisted by Cole MacKay. After that, Rory Kerins would score for the Greyhounds making it a 3-3 game. Jaromir Pytlik and Marc Boudreau added the helpers.

In the third period, Pekar didn't wait long, scoring in the first minute once again. Ryan Suzuki and Brandt Clarke added assists on the powerplay marker. Under two minutes later, Pekar would score again, completing the hat-trick. Tyson Foerster got the assist. Ryan Suzuki would keep it going for the Colts making it 6-3. Willms and Pekar got the assists on the powerplay goal. Then, it was defenceman Nathan Allensen scoring to make it 7-3 in favour of the Colts. Pekar and Foerster added assists. The Greyhounds got one back making it 7-4 off the stick of Kerins, but that would be all.

Matej Pekar had five points in the win.

The Colts are back in action at home on Thursday.
