Erie, Pennsylvania - Daniel Murphy recorded 31 saves but the Erie Otters fell 3-2 to the Mississauga Steelheads in a shootout Saturday night.
Mississauga opened the scoring less than four minutes into the game when Thomas Harley flicked a wrist shot past Erie goaltender Daniel Murphy. The Otters controlled offensive pressure late in the frame and Murphy made 11 saves to keep the score 1-0 heading into the intermission.
Hayden Fowler evened the score just four minutes and 12 seconds into the second period but the Steelheads retook their lead at the 11:13 mark of the middle frame. Chad Yetman tied the game at two goals-a-piece with 27 seconds remaining in the second, extending his goal streak to six games.
Murphy continued his strong game through the third period, making 30 saves in regulation, including key stops to keep the game tied. The Otters required overtime for the first time this season.
Overtime was not enough and the game ended with a shootout goal by Steelheads' Richard Whittaker. Erie will look to rebound against the Guelph Storm at the Otters Annual School Day Game Wednesday morning at the Erie Insurance Arena.
