Flint, Mich. - The Spitfires recorded two second period goals en route to a 3-2 victory over the Flint Firebirds before 3,688 fans at the Dort Federal Event Center on Saturday night (http://flintfirebirds.com/article/windsor01232016) .
While behind Windsor's net and on the power play, Will Bitten dished the puck to Zach Grzelewski who found a crashing Nicholas Caamano in the slot before Caamano hit the post and banged home his own rebound to earn the Firebirds the 1-0 lead 2:47 into the first period.
The Firebirds remained in the lead until Aaron Luckhuk banked the puck off Flint's Matthew Menna from the left corner and into the net. The goal was originally called off but turned over after video review to give the Spitfires the tying tally.
With the game tied 1-1 after the first period of play, Bradley Latour scored on a rebound shot by Hayden McCool from the right circle for his 15^th of the season. While on the power play 55 seconds later, Mikhail Sergachev dished the puck from the nearside wall to Brendan Lemieux at the far circle who one-timed the puck into the back of the net for Windsor's eventual game-winning goal.
The Firebirds scored the lone goal in the final frame when Bitten picked up a shot from Mathieu Henderson, walked out front and found Ryan Moore backdoor. Moore kicked the puck to his stick and slid the puck on the ice into the cage to bring the Firebirds within one but could not complete the comeback before the final buzzer.
After making 10 saves, Menna was relieved by Brent Moran 2:50 into the second period and was perfect in net making 21 saves.
The Firebirds were 2-for-7 on the power play and the Spitfires scored one goal on three attempts with the man-advantage.
Saturday's contest began after the County of Essex, the City of Windsor and the Windsor Spitfires sent more than 65,000 bottles of water to the City of Flint on two semi-trucks prior to puck drop. The Flint Firebirds and the City of Flint are very thankful to everyone that took the time to donate to a good cause.

Puck drop is set for 2 p.m. against the Rangers (31-8-4-0, 3rd Midwest Division) at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium.
