IceDogs Come up Big in Victory over Erie

January 23, 2016 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release

The IceDogs visited the first place Erie Otters tonight and came away with the victory in a 4-1 game.

The first period found both teams getting comfortable in the penalty box early on as there was a total of six penalties taken in the frame. IceDogs goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic looked solid against the offensive power of Erie, stopping every shot he faced throughout the first 20 minutes as both teams headed into the intermission tied 0-0.

IceDogs defenceman Vince Dunn wasted little time making his mark on the game, putting Niagara up by one just 38 seconds after the puck was dropped to start the second period. Graham Knott had the lone assist on Dunn's 10th of the season. Erie would find their way back in the game however, as the team tied the game up a little over half way through the period. Before all was said and done in the second, Jordan Maletta would fire one home with 17 seconds left in the frame, allowing the IceDogs to carry a 2-1 lead into the third.

Niagara solidified there lead in the third period on Pavel Jenys' sixth of the season assisted by Josh Ho-Sang and Stephen Harper. The IceDogs were able hold their lead and come away with the victory despite a hard fought effort from Erie in the last 20 minutes. Josh Ho-Sang would eventually net an empty net goal to conclude the game by a score of 4-1.

The IceDogs next home game is on Sunday, January 31st at 4:00pm as they are set to take on the Hamilton Bulldogs. Tickets are still available for the game and can be purchased at all IceDogs ticket locations.
