Austin FC News Release
Austin, TEXAS - Ethan Finlay, Diego Fagundez, and Gyasi Zardes all scored as Austin FC cruised to a 3-0 victory over in-state rivals FC Dallas on Wednesday night at Q2 Stadium.
Austin took the lead in the 17th minute. Jon Gallagher got free down the left flank and flashed a low ball across the face of goal. The ball deflected off Dallas goalkeeper Maarten Paes and Julio Cascante before falling to Finlay, who tucked it home from close range for his second goal of the season.
Finlay then turned provider for the Verde & Black's second goal. With Paes off his line, he rolled the ball to Fagundez on the edge of the box. Fagundez cleverly chipped it over both the Dallas defenders and the recovering goalkeeper to double the advantage.
Zardes made it 3-0 with a powerful low shot in the 58th minute, after a pass from Nick Lima gave the striker space. From there, Austin kept the visitors at bay for the final half hour, maintaining a clean sheet and earning a win which moves them above Dallas in the 2023 Copa Tejas standings.
