Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON - Houston Dynamo FC forward Thorleifur Úlfarsson was named to the MLSSoccer.com Team of Matchday for Matchday 20, and captain Héctor Herrera earned a spot on the roster, the league announced today.
The Dynamo defeated the San Jose Earthquakes 4-1 at Shell Energy Stadium yesterday after the team scored two goals in the opening five minutes of the match. Úlfarsson scored a brace in the second half to allow Houston to jump the 'Quakes in the Western Conference standings and earn the club's third consecutive league win, a first for the team time since September 5, 2020. Herrera led the team with four chances created on the night, including assisting on both of Úlfarsson's goals.
Herrera returns to the Team of the Matchday for the fourth time this season, while this selection marks Úlfarsson's first. Úlfarsson and Herrera are two of the seven Dynamo players named to the matchday team this season. Steve Clark (Matchday 11), defender Daniel Steres (Matchday 9), forward Amine Bassi (Matchday 7), defender Franco Escobar (Matchday 7 and 18) and midfielder Artur (Matchday 5) earned the award earlier this season.
The team travels to the state capital on Saturday, June 24 to face Austin FC at Q2 Stadium. This is the third meeting of the season between both teams, and Houston earned back-to-back victories over their in-state rivals at home earlier this year.
