Fightins shutout for second straight game

(Trenton, NJ) - The Reading Fightin Phils (64-72) were shut out 3-0 by the Trenton Thunder (78-61) on Sunday night. With the win, the Thunder have clinched the Eastern Division title for the tenth time in their 25 year existence.

Kyle Holder homered off Fightins starting pitcher Harold Arauz (9-7) in the top of the second inning to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead. Holder extended the lead to 2-0 against Arauz in the bottom of the fourth inning as he grounded out to first base to score Chris Gittens. Arauz left the game after 4 1/3 innings for Luke Leftwich in the bottom of the fifth inning. He gave up a RBI single to Holder in the bottom of the seventh inning that gave Trenton a 3-0 lead.

Reading was held without a hit until the top of the eighth inning when Jan Hernandez singled off Chase Hodson. Deivi Garcia (1-0) pitched five no-hit innings in his AA debut and only issued two walks while striking out seven batters. Matt Wivinis earned his fifth save by pitching 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief.
