Fielding Strong in First Start But Beast Drop OT Decision to Nailers

BRAMPTON, ONTARIO - Newly-acquired goaltender Drew Fielding made 28 big saves in his team's first home game since January 10 but the Brampton Beast dropped a hard-fought battle in overtime, losing 3-2 to the Wheeling Nailers at the Powerade Centre on Sunday afternoon.
The Beast came out flying and got on the scoreboard early as Angelo Miceli took advantage of a bounce off a Wheeling shin pad and found the back of the net from the slot at 6:51 of the first period. The Beast continued to pour on the pressure and outshot the Wheeling Nailers 9-7 after the first period.
Midway through the second period, Joe Zarbo added to the Beast lead after redirecting a shot from Travis Brown behind Wheeling starter Franky Palazzese, pushing the Beast lead to 2-0. The Beast continued to dominate in shots, outshooting the Nailers 30-21 after 40 minutes of play.
The Wheeling Nailers upped the pressure in the third period and finally got on the board in the beginning of the frame when forward Cody Wydo found the back of the net with Paul Cianfrini and Jarrett Burton adding the helpers at 6:11.
Nailers forward Jarrett Burton proved why he is leading the team in goals when he added a goal on the powerplay at 11:15 of the third period. Former Beast defenseman Matthew Maione added the assist on the game-tying goal.
Fielding held the game at a 2-2 tie late in the period and withstood a barrage of shots from the Nailers, as Wheeling outshot Brampton 14-3 in the final frame to come back and force overtime.
For a league-leading fourteenth time this season, the Brampton Beast went into overtime. Just 1:28 into the extra period, the Nailers completed the comeback after Derek Army picked the corner and found the back of the net behind Fielding.
Notes: The Brampton Beast went 0-for-6 on the powerplay and were 1-for-4 on the penalty kill. The Beast have now recorded a point in seven straight home games. Molson Three Stars: 3) Angelo Miceli 2) Derek Army 1) Drew Fielding.
