Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans and Tulsa Oilers returned to the Allen Event Center to conclude their four-game set, with the Americans prevailing 2-1.
The Americans were unable to cap a comeback last evening in Tulsa partially due to the fact that the offense couldn't find their stride early enough. On Sunday evening, Allen was able to get a quick start in the form of a 2-0 lead even before the Oilers were able to notch their first shot on goal. It took almost ten full minutes for Tulsa to challenge starting Allen goaltender, Peter Di Salvo. Nikita Jevpalovs is one of the newest Americans to join the fold, however, he is not taking long to contribute, and contribute often. Jevpalovs made a beautiful cross-crease pass to a waiting Chris Crane, who put it away for his 12th of the season. Jevpalovs also sprung Chad Costello, who gave Nolan Descoteaux a lay-up for his 2nd goal of the season.
After registering a total of one shot on goal in the first period, the Oilers came out with some intent in the second. Being relatively unperturbed in net, Di Salvo was able to stand against a Tulsa barrage of 14 second period shots. While Di Salvo impressed, Connor Kucera scored his first goal of the year on a long distance shot 5:21 into the period, cutting the Allen lead in half, 2-1.
The Americans rode Di Salvo until the very end, as Allen hung on to claim a 2-1 victory over the Oilers. Di Salvo turned away 20 Tulsa shots, and was vital in claiming victory, concluding the four game series.
The Americans will welcome the Utah Grizzlies to the Allen Event Center on Friday, February 5th, at 7:05 pm.
