Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Dayton, Ohio - Jake Faria gave the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Class-A/Tampa Bay Rays) just what they needed on Friday night with six solid innings, but a solo home run in the second off Faria was the only piece of scoring as Nick Travieso and the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds) edged the Hot Rods, 1-0.

Faria (7-8) was able to work six innings one night after the Hot Rods bullpen had to cover all but one out against Great Lakes. He allowed just the solo home run and five other hits. Faria struck out six batters, and walked just two to lower his season earned run average to 3.58. Willie Gabay relieved Faria and worked two scoreless frames, lowering his own earned run average to 2.06.

Travieso (11-5) carried a no-hitter into the sixth, and was able to work around control issues to earn his eleventh victory. He walked five, but only conceded one hit while striking out four. His earned run average now stands at 3.17. Joel Bender and Alejandro Chacin helped complete the shutout.

The lone run of the game crossed in the bottom of the second inning. With two outs, Jose Ortiz hit his second home run of the season over the left-center field fence. It didn't seem like it at the time, but the blast would be the only bit of scoring on the night in Dayton's 1-0 triumph.

The pivotal series will continue on Saturday night between the Hot Rods and Dragons. First pitch is scheduled for 6:07 p.m. CT, and the Pepsi Pre-Game Show begins at 5:50 p.m. CT on the radio home of the Hot Rods, 1340 WBGN - The Ticket. Bowling Green returns home Monday, August 18 to open a six-game homestand.
