Kane County Cougars News Release

APPLETON, Wis.- Three home runs helped the Cougars (33-20, 78-45) to a 7-2 victory over the Timber Rattlers (29-24, 65-57) for a five-game winning streak. With the victory, the Cougars reached 32 games over .500 as one of the top teams in all of minor league baseball.

The first two Cougar home runs came as solo shots in the second inning to open up the scoring. Jacob Rogers led off the frame with his third blast in Fox Cities Stadium and two batters later Cael Brockmeyer sent another one deep for his sixth blast of the year.

The Cougars scored in three consecutive innings to build a 5-0 lead. In the fourth, Trey Martin connected on his second home run ins as many days, but this one didn't leave yard. Martin drilled a line drive to center field as Johnny Davis came charging in and attempted a diving catch forward. Instead the ball bounced past Davis and rolled all the way to the warning track.

Jonathan Martinez (9-5) only allowed two runs through five innings, with both runs coming in his final two frames.

Tristan Archer came in for relief of Barrett Astin (7-7) who surrendered the first five runs. Archer found his most trouble in the sixth when he walked Victor Caratini with the bases loaded to force a run home pushing the Cougars' lead back to four. Recently called up Mark Zagunis made it a 7-2 advantage with his first Cougar hit to drive home Trey Martin in the eighth.

Tyler Ihrig came in from the bullpen for the first time as a Cougar this season. His four shutout frames to end the ball game earned Ihrig his first win.

Daury Torrez (10-5, 2.94) will take the mound for the Cougars against the rehabbing Milwaukee Brewer Wei-Chung Wang. First pitch from Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium is 6:35 p.m. The game can be heard on AM 1280 WBIG and kccougars.com.
