Sioux City Explorers News Release

Fargo, ND-----The Explorers were shutout 7-0 by Fargo-Moorhead Monday in the first game of the three-game series at Newman Outdoor Field. It was only the second time this season the Explorers were shutout as the X's were held to just four hits and hit into four double plays in the loss.

Michael Lang, who was named American Association Hitter of the Week has two of the four hits to extend his hitting streak to eight games. The other bright spot for the Explorers was Brandon Newton getting a single in the sixth inning to extend his hitting streak to 14 games. Defense let Explorers starter Richard Salazar down as the X's made two errors in the fourth that led to the first Fargo-Moorhead run. One of the errors was charged to Salazar on an attempted pickoff of Zach Penprase, who later scored. The Red Hawks put the game away in the fifth inning as they scored four runs off five singles as Fargo-Moorhead increased their lead to 5-0. The Explorers only had two scoring opportunities, leaving a runner on at third in the fifth and had runners at first and third in the sixth, but Kris Sanchez hit into an inning ending double play.

The win was the fourth in a row for Fargo-Moorhead while the Explorers dropped to 16-16, losing for the second straight night.

The Explorers and Fargo-Moorhead will meet again Tuesday at Fargo. Game time will be 7:05.
