Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

LAREDO, Texas - Former RailCats pitcher Chris Chavez threw a three-hit shutout and struck out 10 to lead the Lemurs to a 3-0 win over his former team in the series opener on Monday night. The RailCats have lost a season-high four straight games to drop to 13-17 on the season.

RailCats starter Stephen Hiscock (1-2) was outstanding in defeat, throwing his second straight quality start as he held the Lemurs to an unearned run on six hits in six innings. He has allowed one earned run in 12 innings over his last two starts, good for a 0.75 ERA over that span.

The lone run allowed by Hiscock came on a throwing error by RailCats third baseman Mike Rohde in the second inning.

The RailCats put two runners on with nobody out in both the second and third, but failed to score as Chavez worked out of the jams. In his first career shutout, Chavez walked one and hit a batter.

The Lemurs added two runs in the seventh on run-scoring singles by Jimmy Mojica and Ernie Banks Jr.

Game two of the three-game series will be on Tuesday night at 7:30. Kyle Wilson (1-2, 6.43) will start for Gary.
