Falcons Top Wolf Pack In Shootout, Extend Point Streak To Seven

Hartford, Conn. - The Springfield Falcons (20-4-1-2) defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack in a shootout Saturday night by the final score of 2-1, extending the team's point streak to seven games.

For the second consecutive game, Andrew Joudrey notched the shootout winner for Springfield. Jonathan Marchessault notched the team's other conversion, while netminder Jeremy Smith denied the Wolf Pack on all four attempts.

Marchessault also scored the Falcons' only goal in regulation, beating Hartford goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris with a wrist shot from just inside the left-wing circle at 4:59 of the first period. For Marchessault, the goal was his team-best eighth of the season.

Akim Aliu notched the only tally for Hartford, finding the back of the net at 10:20 of the second period.

Smith stopped 27 of 28 shots through regulation and overtime to earn his 13th victory of the season. Grumet-Morris made 30 saves on 31 shots, but allowed two shootout conversion on three attempts to take the shootout loss.

Neither team converted on the power play. Springfield went 0-for-7, while Hartford went 0-for-5.

With the win, Springfield improved upon its AHL-best points percentage, bettering the rate to .796. The team has earned at least a point in its last seven games and in 15 of its last 16, and is now 6-0-0-0 versus Hartford this season.

The Falcons return to the MassMutual Center Thursday, December 26 to host the Adirondack Phantoms at 7:00 p.m.
