Penguins Sign Torquato to PTO

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have signed center Zack Torquato to a professional tryout agreement (PTO).

Currently in his third season with the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL), Torquato has registered 31 points (9g-22a) and 18 penalty minutes in 25 games this season and is the team's leader in goals, assists and points.

A former sixth-round selection (178th overall) of the Detroit Red Wings in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Torquato has skated in 24 American Hockey League games, posting a goal and 12 PIM with the Grand Rapids Griffins and Rockford IceHogs. The 24-year old fourth-year pro has also compiled 41 goals, 101 assists and 200 penalty minutes in 186 ECHL contests with Idaho, Toledo and Wheeling.

Torquato split five seasons of junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League between the Saginaw Spirit and Erie Otters, posting 34 goals, 195 assists and 411 PIM in 330 games.
