Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators defeated the visiting Albany Devils 3-2 tonight in overtime. Cole Schneider put home the game-winning marker just 1:08 into the extra period to keep the B-Sens undefeated in overtime this season.
Binghamton struck first 3:22 into the opening period when Mark Stone redirected a beautiful feed from Mike Hoffman which slipped past Devil's goaltender Keith Kinkaid giving the hosts an early lead. The score remained 1-0 for the rest of the period with Andrew Hammond stonewalling all 10 shots faced in the first 20 minutes.
Albany tied things up less than two minutes into the middle period when Harri Pesonen scored his first of two goals for the night off an assist from Kelly Zajac. Binghamton got their lead back at the 8:48 mark of the second period when Hoffman put home his sixth power-play tally of the year. Stephane Da Costa fed a backdoor pass across the ice and Hoffman put the puck into a wide open net to give the Sens a 2-1 lead heading into the final intermission.
The Devils once again managed to tie the game up on Pesonen's second marker of the evening on a low wrist shot at 13:42 of the third period. Hammond and Kinkaid both shut the door the rest of regulation sending the game to overtime. Binghamton managed to make the most of their three shots in the extra period with Schneider putting home the game-winner just over one minute in to give the B-Sens the bonus point and send the Devils back to Albany with a loss.
Hammond finished the game stopping 29 of 31 shots faced to earn his seventh victory of the year while the Devil's Kinkaid finished with 26 saves in just his fourth loss of the season. Hoffman finished with a goal and an assist for the second consecutive game to lead Binghamton offensively. Chris Wideman chipped in an assist for the Sens extending his point streak to four straight games.
Binghamton returns to action the day after Christmas for their annual Boxing Day game when they host the Hershey Bears in a 7:05p.m. tilt.
